At the 2025 ESCRS Congress, I had the opportunity to design an exhibition marking a milestone moment: the 30th anniversary of the Femtosecond Laser. To celebrate this breakthrough in ophthalmic surgery, I created an interactive experience that honoured the innovators behind the technology and highlighted how it continues to shape the future of the field.

Curating the Story

My process began with gathering and organising material from the key contributors who advanced the Femtosecond Laser over three decades. By pinpointing the defining milestones and personalities, I shaped a clear narrative foundation for the exhibition. Working with a fabrication partner in Copenhagen, I transformed this story into an immersive environment that combined sculptural elements, printed narratives, and digital displays to create a layered, multi‑sensory experience.

Bringing the Legacy to Life

The final installation became a focal point of the congress, culminating in a special gathering of the original pioneers and thought leaders behind the technology. Charting the laser’s evolution—from its earliest scientific breakthroughs to its modern applications in cataract and refractive surgery—the exhibition offered visitors a clear sense of the field’s progress while projecting its potential for decades to come.
